Hold'em Poker Masters

Stu Ungar is regarded by most to the greatest NL Hold em Poker player ever.

The three time World Poker Champ was born in New York in '53 and started playing poker before reaching his teens.

The young bettor began betting gin and at the age of ten had won his initial gin tournament, while on vacation with his mother and father. By the time he turned fourteen the small poker genius had become a professional and dropped out of school.

In '54 Stu Ungar entered the record books by winning 10 grand in a gin rummy tournament without losing a single hand, a record which still remains in New York these days.

The quick talking wiz kid has been compared, in poker terms, to athletic greats such as Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant. Stu had a actual talent for wagering poker except regardless of his achievements in Hold'em poker, he favored betting gin.

Stu once said that there might some day be a better NL Texas holdem player than him but he couldn't see how anyone could ever be a better gin player.

In 1980 Stu was put on the global map as one of the best Texas hold'em Poker gamblers in the entire world when he was crowned World Poker Champion for the first time. Astonishingly it was the 1st time he had entered the tournament.

The following year he dismissed any thoughts that it had been luck, by successfully protecting his title. And in '97 Stu set the record by winning his third World poker championship.

But this poker master also battled with drug abuse and a year after winning his third title Stu Ungar past away in his hotel room. According to medical professionals, he had passed away from a heart attack which was brought on by his lifestyle.

Stu Ungar had started out with nothing except his skill and expertise for the game which made this poker great a millionaire quite a few times over.
